Earlier today, the Minnesota State High School League made the decision to start fall sports this year with some alterations due to COVID. As the Activities Office gains more information, we will post it to our website. We know there will be numerous questions that we will try to answer as fast as we can. We are also aware that not all answers will necessarily be what parents and athletes want to hear. As we navigate this season and school year, we ask that patience and understanding remain in the forefront of everyone’s minds. For the official information from the MSHSL’s Board of Directors, please click here.

Fall Sports:

   Starting August 17th:

          Girls Tennis (9-12)

          Cross Country (7-12)

          Girls Swim & Dive (7-12)

          Soccer (9-12)

Please see below for registration information for these sports. This group will have their season  length reduced by 20% and their number of contests reduced by 30%.

   Starting Mid March:

          Volleyball (9-12)

          Football (9-12)

          Fall Cheer (9-12)

          Fall Dance (7-12)

These sports will not be included in the fall registration. Registration will be a part of our Spring registration link that will open in February. These sports will also have their season length reduced by 20% and their number of contests reduced by 30%. Additionally, these sports will be allowed to practice this fall, but will not be allowed to have any competitions until spring.

   Middle School Sports:

All middle school sports are TBD at this time. Volleyball will for sure be moved to March if middle school sports are allowed to take place. Decisions about Girls Tennis and Soccer will be made within the next week and we will make their registration live if they are able to play.

     Adapted Sports:

Adapted sports are still TBD at this time. As soon as we hear anything, we will make their registration live if they are able to play.

Registration: Registration will open at 8:00am on Wednesday, August 5th for the sports that will start on August 17th. Registration will be done all online at www.shakopeesabers.com under the Registration tab. Click on the “Athletic Link” in the drop down menu. Start to finish, registration will be completed through this link. If financial assistance is needed, please contact Haley at haltringer@shakopee.k12.mn.us for a fee waiver code.

Physicals: A sports physical is required for participation. If you do not have a physical on file at all, one will need to be turned in before you are cleared to participate. Due to COVID, we are extending our physical expiration date for the 20-21 school year. Physicals from 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 will all be valid this year. However, please be aware that for the 21-22 school year, both 2017 and 2018 will expire. Sports physical forms are available at www.shakopeesabers.com/forms. Once completed, forms can be uploaded into the registration or turned in to the activities office via email (haltringer@shakopee.k12.mn.us) or in person.

Masks & Water Bottles: ALL athletes should have their own mask with them at all times and their own water bottle with them at all times. Masks MUST be worn when indoors and not on the playing surface. Water bottles should be filled at home and never shared. There will be no water jugs provided by the athletic trainer this year in order to reduce the rate of transmission.

Spectators: As of right now, the Minnesota Department of Education is requesting that NO spectators be allowed into a public school setting. This means that for any games or meets taking place inside of any Shakopee Public School Building, there will be no fans allowed in attendance. We are waiting on direction for outside games and meets, but believe that it will be limited due to the social setting guidelines from the Department of Health.
