Captain's Corner - Athletes of the Week - 5/13/22

After each week of meets in the season, our track captains highlight athletes who stood out to them at the meets or practice that week. Our captains on the girls side are Lauren DuBois, Rebecca Hansen, Joel Makem, Erika Schoenecker, Halle St. Martin, Faith Vosika & Hope Vosika. Our captains on the boys side are Braden Burger, Tim Hames, Jakob Hanson, Andrew McCall, Vincenzo Miller, Ryan Piotraschke & Ben Sedlacek.

The Shakopee Track & Field team competed at the Section 3AAA True Team Meet and the Shakopee JV Meet this past week. You can view the results of this meet on our main Track & Field webpage.

The athletes that our captains recognized for this past week are listed below as well as why they were recognized.

  • Ahema Odeng-Otu - This athlete during the Shakopee JV meet placed Second overall in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.92. This is a huge mark so congrats to Ahema! ~ Selected by Lauren DuBois
  • Awaiting Selection ~ Selected by Rebecca Hansen
  • Victoria Fajemirokun - I am recognizing her as an athlete of the week because she has been working really hard. When there are no coaches around Victoria is still focused and doing what needs to be done. She also Just period at our last meet this past Wednesday on the open hundred. She has been putting in a lot of work with throws and sprints and has continuously shown progress.  ~ Selected by Joel Makem
  • Lauren DuBois - I am recognizing Lauren because she matched her PR of 5’2” at True Team and was super close to 5’4.” She also is working really hard at practice and always has a positive attitude.  ~ Selected by Erika Schoenecker
  • Jack Hove - Jack stood out at the Shakopee JV Meet this week, running an 11.47 to finish in first place in the 100 Meter Dash. He continues to work hard at practice and his progress has been paying off at meets! Jack’s freshman season has been successful so far and he has a bright future ahead of him! ~ Selected by Halle St. Martin
  • Awaiting Selection ~ Selected by Faith Vosika
  • Gannon Rydberg - I picked Gannon because he PR’d in his 100m race at the JV Lakeville North meet, he’s been showing up to more practices, and i can tell he cares about his sprint times.  ~ Selected by Hope Vosika
  • Junior DeSouza - I chose Junior this week because of all the hard work i've been seeing him put in at practice and it has been paying out tremendously for him as he has cut his 800 time down a lot. I'm very proud of him and can't wait to see him PR again ~ Selected by Braden Burger
  • Ava Fratzke - Ava has been putting in so much work at practices and at the jv meet it finally payed off as she cam in first place in the long jump ~ Selected by Tim Hames
  • Ryan Becker - Becker has been working hard all seasons and has been impressive in races over and over again. This week wasn't any different as he ran a really strong 800 at true team and followed it up with a strong 400 at the JV meet, the next day.  ~ Selected by Jakob Hanson
  • Awaiting Selection  ~ Selected by Andrew McCall
  • Nevin Sunny - Nevin has been improving everyday at track. He also brings a smile every where he goes. HE PR in discus by 2 feet and ran a 12.8 in the 100 M open. Nevin is a fun guy to have around and I cant wait to see how he improves. ~ Selected by Vincenzo Miller
  • Melanie Richter  - Melanie is one of our varsity pole vaulters. Throughout this season I have seen her do a lot of great work and really improve on her vaulting this season. Great Job Melanie!!!  ~ Selected by Ryan Piotraschke
